Information for teachers and group leaders

One of the best trip destinations in the nature reserve:
The “Die Scheune” textile museum and the Tillmann spinning and weaving art collection in the Maas-Schwalm-Nette nature reserve, near Hinsbeck an der Kirchenbecker Seen, Nettetal A short description of the museum:

The “Die Scheune” textile museum as run for more than 25 years since the conception of the idea of a spinning and weaving art collection.  Here the history and development of the textile industry in the Niederrhein area is shown through many differnet and changing exhibitions.  The exhibitions span from wool, flax, linen and hemp to silk and cotton.  The visitor can see how thread is made using both hand spindles and spinning wheels.  There are also demonstrations of how different handlooms and automatic shuttle looms work.  Visitors also have the chance to gain an insight into the international standing of our work, and of textile art in general, or to see the textile art collection.

The “School Trip Learning Museum” is great fun for pre-school and primary school level children, as they can find out about textiles through stories and activities with a “fairy-tale lesson”.  For older students and adults we offer themed tours, such as: “Industrialisation”, “The Social Importance of Textiles” or “The Influence of Textiles on our Language”.  For this we recommend that you set aside one to one-and-a-quarter hours.  We are happy to help you with school projects and study groups.

Please feel free to pick up a copy of our varied yearly programme, these can be found on display.
